1910 - 1920 English furniture (part 1)

Just like in this era, people in the 1910's to 1920's will have had older decade decor in their houses.
Here i will list with pictures many things that would be found in their houses.

Including:
 -Fireplaces
-statues/ornaments
-sofa (styles)

FIREPLACES

STATUES
Many of the statues/ ornaments used as decoration in this era were of women; face, body or both.
Here are some examples i have found around the internet.

SOFA
There were very different styles to sofas so i have got a few different examples from the 1840's onwards.

PAINTINGS

Though there were camera's within the decade I am studying, paintings were still what were seen up on the walls of houses and were wanted by everybody.

1910 painting 1 - google images

1910 painting 2 - google images

1920 painting - google images

1920 painting - google images

Obviously all the paintings are quite similar - they all use a country style landscape and most have people in the picture as well.
All the paintings have been painted very delicately and are all done in very warm colours.
Need to keep note of this.

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS - WITH HELP FROM TITANIC/DOWNTON ABBEY

Downton abbey servant Quarters

upper class living - Downton abbey dining

Titanic - upper class cabin

Titanic - lower class cabin

Obviously there is a major difference between the way of living for the wealthy and the not so wealthy. They Wealthy live in luxury and even when they go away (titanic) they keep the luxury however the lower class have to get by with the plain and standard.
obviously there is a big split between the two classes and how they live - probably should look at this in more detail and how the film/tv series have decided to show this - is it true to real life?

  1. HI. I GOT HERE BY RESEARCHING ENGLISH MOTOR CARS 1900-1920.

I REALLY LIKE ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS. (YOU DO HAVE SOME TYPOS: COMPANIES SHOULD BE SINGULAR POSSESSIVE: COMPANY'S FOR EXAMPLE. CHECK SUBJECT AND VERB AGREEMENT ALSO. THAT GETS TRICKY IF YOU'VE BEEN WRITING, PROOFING, EDITING, OVER AND OVER). BUT LOVED THE FORMAT, EASY TO READ AND THE PHOTOS ARE FANTASTIC!! REALLY LIKED IT.

YOU ARE PROBABLY A GRAD STUDENT BY NOW, BUT IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED IN FILM PRODUCTION AND BEING TRUE TO REAL LIFE CHECK OUT THE MYSTERY SERIES "FOYLE'S WAR"--ANTHONY HOROWITZ WROTE, MICHAEL KITCHEN STARRED--DVDs INCLUDE FLASH CARDS AT THE END OF EACH EPISODE WITH ENTRIES EXPLAINING HOW THE STORY DEVELOPED, HOW THEY STAYED WITHIN BUDGET SHOOTING A PERIOD PIECE, ETC. THE FIRST 4-5 SEASONS WITH 4 EPISODES EACH, ARE AVAILABLE ON DVD FROM ACORN, AMAZON. YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY? BUT DO CHECK THEM OUT.

RE: THE TITANIC. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS A DIEHARD TITANIC FAN. I FOUND A BOOK WITH LETTERS THAT THE CABIN STEWARDS, MAIDS, ETC WROTE ABOUT THE DISASTER. SOME WERE VERY NONCHALANT AND TOOK A SHIP'S SINKING AS PART OF THE JOB.

ONE PIECE I READ POINTED OUT THAT THE STEERAGE (3RD CLASS) PASSENGERS ALL HAD THEIR OWN BED. AND THEY HAD RUNNING WATER IN THE ROOM, AND OTHER HYGENIC ITEMS WE TAKE FOR GRANTED. MOST IF NOT ALL OF THESE PASSENGERS MAY HAVE COME FROM HOMES WHERE THEY SHARED A BED OR MATTRESS WITH 5 SIBLINGS AND MAYBE PARENT. SO WHILE WE MAY LOOK AT BUNKBEDS AND ONE SINK, THEY WOULD HAVE FELT THEY WERE IN THE BETTER PART OF A CASTLE: FOOD, 3 MEALS A DAY. HOT WATER THEY WEREN'T PUMPING FROM A VILLAGE WELL OR CREEK AND CARRYING IT BACK HOME. CHECK OUT THE PRICES FOR EACH CLASS OF PASSENGER, COMPARE IT TO DAILY WAGES, OR COMPARE TO TODAY'S EQUIVELENT COSTS. IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.

    HAPPY STUDIES.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE CAR SUMMARY. ALL THE BEST.
